The 2018 Edmonton Rock Music Festival Features Another Stellar Line-up
Edmonton…. The Edmonton Rock Music Festival is ready to shake the foundations of Hawrelak Park on August 17 and 18, 2018! The eighth installment of the festival features a roster of some of the finest Canadian and American rock superstars never before seen on the Edmonton Rockfest stage.
"We are super excited to bring another stellar line-up to our loyal fans," says Donna Semeniuk, President of the Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton. "In addition to several iconic rock musicians, we also have some of Edmonton's finest local talent performing. It's going to be a great show for both young and veteran rockers alike this August and we expect another sold-out show."
Kicking off the Festival on Friday, August 17, are local rockers 69 Ave, followed by Saga, a group of “musicians’ musicians” that haven’t appeared in Edmonton for more than 15 years. Closing the show on Friday is Don Felder, famed Eagles member behind many of the band’s legendary hits. Backed by a solid cast of top-notch players, Felder will deliver an amazing array of much-loved Eagles’ songs.
Local band Rockzilla opens the show on Saturday, August 18, followed by Gord Steinke and The Big Stein Band. Holly Woods and Toronto will then take the stage to play favourites from their five platinum albums followed by Canadian hard rockers Helix who are sure to get fists pumping in the park. Fan favourites Honeymoon Suite will also appear Saturday afternoon featuring songs from their four-decade career, while Glass Tiger is certain to present an unforgettable set of their international hits. Closing the show is L.A.’s Los Lobos – masters of their craft who spin together rock, zydeco, Tex/Mex and R&B that will pack the dance floor.
The tradition of featuring a special performance on Saturday by several of the youth who participate in the Centre for Arts and Music (CAM) Program continues again this year. The CAM Program’s mentors and musicians teach at-risk youth how to play instruments, write songs, form bands and perform on stage. More than 380 youth have participated in this program since its inception in 2010.
The Edmonton Rock Music Festival is produced by The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton. The Society operates the Centre for Arts and Music…..
With a focus on youth at risk in our community, the CAM Program reaches out to children who would otherwise have few opportunities to participate in the arts. The goal is to reach them during critical after school hours through music.
At CAM, children learn how to write songs, play instruments and perform together on stage. In the process, they earn self- esteem, respect for themselves and others, and much needed self-confidence. Like in years’ past, a number of the program participants will be taking to the Festival stage on Saturday, Aug. 19 to play some kick-ass classic rock for the Fest faithful
Studies show that children who are exposed to the arts do better in school and other areas of life. We see this first hand every day, and all agencies confirm the positive impact the program is having in the lives of these children. In fact, one agency advised that serious incidents at their centre dropped from several per month to zero as a result of student engagement in CAM.More Event Details
