After the sudden death of her partner Rena spent a year writing whatever music instinctively came to mind with the resulting collection being a surprisingly colourful set of dreamy pop/post punk/rock songs with fewer dark undertones than one would expect of work done in grief. After producing the recordings with herself playing all instruments Child Actress is set to release these songs a first EP in the spring of 2016. Rena is currently writing and recording a full length album that takes the tones and themes which began to be developed in the first year of loss and grief and examines them more deeply under a much finer microscope.
A fresh throwback to ‘80s new wave, Melted Mirror are a mixture of synth and drum machines destined to be played in the passenger seat of a DeLorean as the sun sets. If you close your eyes and listen intently, fluorescent stars may flood the backs of your eyeballs. — Sled Island
Wares is a musical project engineered by Edmonton musician Cassia Hardy. From teeth rattling electric convulsions to barely-there, reverb drenched refrains, the musical inflections explored by Wares are as varied as they are enthralling.
Matthew Swann recently had a nightmare that he turned into a bucket of straw. He had another in which he saw the universe as constructed of tiny, conscious, malevolent, atoms. The first was dissociated, and impersonal. The second was paranoid. Both were highly distressing. Matthew Swann plays experimental folk music under the name, astral swans. He lives in Calgary, Alberta with a talking horse, constructed from malevolent atoms that eats straw.
