The Pistolwhips are a blues-infused indie rock band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The quartet is comprised of frontman Rylan Schultz, guitarist Paul Kuzbik, bass guitarist Zach Davies, and drummer Tallus Scott. The Pistolwhips combine upbeat indie rock tunes with old school blues licks and a dose of psychedelia to create a sound that is dynamic and captivating. In a relatively short period of time, The Pistolwhips have performed across Canada at a number of festivals such as Canadian Music Week, JUNOfest, The Sasktel Jazz Festival, MOSOfest, The Red Bull Sound Stage, Sasktel Summer Invasion, and Winnipeg’s Prairie Barge Festival. The Pistolwhips made their first trip overseas to perform a string of shows in London, England in October of 2014. The band’s powerful stage presence combined with their epic live performances and huge local following has led to some hailing them as a “local super group”. https://www.facebook.com/
Left floating in a sea of fragile angst you sense a tipping point. You are witness to a short fuse burning. Feet submerged but your head is dry. Serpentine in its delivery there is an unexpected fluency. You sense the struggle of sweaty palms moving up the neck, anticipating the fall, only to be rewarded by your own self awareness. To simply define Crooked Spies is difficult, but the feeling they instill from the whimsical lyricism, soaring melodies and displays of ferocious elegance will leave you with the taste of new beginnings. A fresh take on rock n roll for the wandering soul. This is honest music.
An eclectic bag of influences is what truly adheres to the name Crooked. With songs that peer into the soul of classic rock and possess the political prowess of punk, it is the bond of brothers rooted in blues that holds it all together. The message is a clear and simple one from the gents of Crooked Spies. Make music that is true to itself and have as much fun as possible doing it. - https://www.facebook.com/crookedspiesmusic/
The Damn Truth
There are times when rock’n’roll is off the leash, off the rails and, at the risk of understatement, off its rocker. For the most part, now is not one of those times. But there are forces at work in defiance of this state of affairs. And that’s The Damn Truth.
You could say that Montreal’s The Damn Truth are keeping rock honest, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the group’s newest full-length album, the sophomore Devilish Folk. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Dear in the Headlights, Devilish Folk sees the band – Lee-La Baum (vocals/guitar), Tom Shemer (guitars) and Dave Traina (drums) – doubling down on the bruising blues-based, blue-collar rock that distinguished them, and made them something of a musical anomaly, from the moment of inception. In a world where being different doesn’t always mean being celebrated, The Damn Truth are fighting the good fight. - https://www.facebook.com/thedamntruth/More Event Details
