LEAGUE of WOLVES (Saskatoon)
League of Wolves is a hard-hitting rock group from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Originally comprised of four childhood friends, Dillon Currie, David Wickstrom, and Aspen and Greig Beveridge, the band started out by playing at small concert halls and outdoor events in neighbouring cities and towns. They quickly earned local recognition, with their first demo getting radio play throughout the province.
In 2016, the group played at local venue, The Capitol, owned by four-time JUNO award-winner and former lead guitarist of The Sheepdogs, Leot Hanson. After seeing the show, Hanson was blown away and knew it was something he needed to be a part of. He soon after became a permanent member of the band.
Hanson’s wealth of experience and writing style brought a new sound and direction to the band, with listeners comparing it to the likes of Kings of Leon and Queens of the Stone Age. “In collaborating with Leot, our song writing took a different direction. Our sound is closer to what we wanted all along,” says the band… “Exactly like it should be”.
With the new sound and surrounding local excitement, the band drew the attention of JUNO award-winning producer Gavin Brown (Three Days Grace, Tragically Hip, Billy Talent), who after months of development signed them to his record label, Inside Pocket. After writing and collaborating with the likes of Maia Davies (co-writer with One Bad Son, Mother Mother), Jon Harvey (Monster Truck) and Brown himself, League of Wolves found themselves at Noble Street Studios in Toronto, Ontario to put to record a brand new 6-song EP. Rounding out the world-class production is Grammy award-winning mixer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse), with Harry Hess (Billy Talent, Arkells) sitting in the mastering chair.
League of Wolves frontman, Dillon Currie, says writing and recording with the likes of Brown, Davies, and Harvey has helped the group evolve creatively, as well as solidify their vision. Above all, he says these experiences are extremely rewarding: “It’s fun to be a part of making quality content with your friends and being able to share it with people all over the world”.
The self-titled EP will be released on Inside Pocket via Warner Music Canada in early 2019, with the first single, ‘Never Be the Same Again’ to be released August 24th, 2018. An accompanying music video will also be released, which was filmed during the band’s spring tour.
Having already shared the stage with several of Canada’s top rock bands, including The Glorious Sons, The Trews, and The Beaches, League of Wolves look forward to hitting the road in the fall of 2018 – and not stopping until their name is a mainstay on every top rock playlist in the country.
THE PROUD SONS (Winnipeg)
Unforgiving Prairie winters seem to have a knack for producing the best of both. With terrible skating skills, Winnipeg's The Proud Sons certainly picked the right career path.
After several years of honing their craft, 2018 promises to be a banner year for the band. Rolling Stone, Produced by Hedley's Tommy Mac, and mixed by JUNO Award winner Eric Ratz, showcases the band's warm, harmony-rich tones right from the opening notes. The Proud sons' unique take on the traditional Roots / Americana / Southern Rock sounds have been commanding attention from audiences across the country since 2012.
With an EP release and national tour in the works, The Proud Sons apologize in advance for your hangover, and the voice that you lost while singing along.
The Varmoors Hail from tropical Calgary, AB. What started out as beer fueled jamming and partying has turned into a full fledgedrock’n’roll band (Still fueled by beer, still partying). The Varmoors chemistry is the result of growing up together and being best friends for over a decade. The band was formed in 2015 and they have grown exponentially together ever since. The Varmoors are a band of brothers held together by their love for classic rock, good times and adventure.
The Varmoors sound can be described as a wall of guitars that move, shake and rock the house. Melodic tones and tasty riffs encompass the wide range of influences that the band has. From the greats like Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, all the way to new cats like Jack White, The Black Keys, The War on Drugs and The Sheepdogs. With heavy hitting drums driving the song and a rhythm section that carries the beat, The Varmoors are a band that everyone wants to dance to.
The Varmoors are set to release their first full length EP titled “These Days” in the summer of 2018. This release is to be followed by a West Coast tour and a handful of local shows, festivals and house parties over the summertime.
The Varmoors stand for good ol’ fashion rock and roll and have the goal of bringing it back to life. They may march to the beat of their own drum, but you can always catch this band hanging out in the crowd before and after the show sippin’ on some barley sandwiches.
