The Neutral States
One part melodic power pop, one part slacker noise, one part punky psych, and the last part whatever happens to wander in while they're rehearsing. Deep roots in classic record-collector rock, plus ongoing curious ears, inform The Neutral States' energetic take on the '4 skinny white guys with guitars' brand of rock/roll. "The amalgamation of some of the most definitive voices and energies in Calgary’s storied rock and roll history" (so sez BeatRoute), The Neutral States is comprised of ex-Fire Engine Red second-fiddler Lee Shedden, ex-Hot Little Rocketeer (and current chairman of the Night Committee) Andrew Wedderburn, legendary garage-rawk bassist Johnny Clark (Cryptomaniacs, Thee Thems), and one of two killer drummers, depending on what night it is. Equal parts heart-on-sleeve and tongue-in-cheek, their melodic, scrappy updates of "Positively 4th Street" are currently being immortalized in wax by Lorrie Matheson and will be released in mid-Q2. They formed last year and are very much looking forward to finally getting out of the house and playing a lot more shows.
