ABtrio

Based out of Edmonton, the ABtrio brings together three of Alberta’s most in-demand performing and recording musicians—Thom Bennett, Dan Davis, and Keith Rempel. This new group is inspired by the open sounding, chordless groups of Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker and Joe Lovano’s collaboration with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones. Their material ranges from inventive re-interpretations of standards to modern, original repertoire and high energy groove-based music. The trio’s format is fresh, and their music is accessible and compelling.

Members of the ABtrio have performed and/or recorded with a veritable who’s who of musicians in Canada and beyond including Juno award winners Brad Turner and Mike Lent, Bill Coon, Mike Downes, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, the Southwest Florida Symphony, and PJ Perry among many others. Members of the group have toured extensively across Canada, the United States and Europe performing at the International Association of Jazz Educators, the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, the Calgary Folk Festival, Kraina Mriy Festival of Kiev and hundreds of private and corporate functions. Their teaching experience at the post-secondary level includes time at the University of South Florida, MacEwan University and Keyano College.
