Born in Victoria, Australia, Michael Charles picked up his first guitar at the tender age of five, tutored by his father, and a spark ignited that fired him on to produce numerous singles and albums totaling twenty six releases thus far.
Michael Charles appeared on over 30 television shows and received airplay on over 75 radio stations during his career in Australia. Muso and Musicians Journal published feature articles on Charles, while his videos aired on a bevy of shows including MTV, Night Shift, and Rage.
In the height of his Australian career, Charles received a request from the management of long time hero, Mr. Buddy Guy, to come to America and perform on stage at Buddy Guy’s Legends! A true highlight of his career, this two week trip has lasted for 18 years. Along with performing with the likes of Buddy Guy, Phil Guy, James Cotton, Willie Cobbs, Junior Wells, Eddy Clearwater, Michael also took his own band and made his way to the stages of the Chicago Blues Fest, New Orleans Jazz and Blues Festival, Philadelphia Blues Fest, Memphis Tennessee Crossroads Conference, New Orleans Cutting Edge Conference, Route 66 Summer Festival, Taste of River North, Taste of Midway.Catfish Days Festival, Wilmington Blues Fest, JK Harrison's November's Blues, Round Lake Streets of Summer Festival, Maywood, Blues Festival, Ship & Shore Festival, Arizona Blind and Deaf Children's Foundation fundraiser, Maywood Family Fest, Pako Fest, Homestead Blues Festival, Arlington Heights Frontier Days, Bolingbrook Festival,and a host of others.
Charles has done his share on American TV also as he was featured in a music special with live performance on WGN TV. Michael has been the featured guest on JBTV with three encore appearance from 1992-2007. Also appearing on a biography special along side the legendary bluesman, Jimmy Dawkins. Again a feature, Charles filmed live on Chicago’s Rock My Ass while his videos aired on The Other Sides and JBTV. In 2009 Charles made his encore appearance on WGN Television.
Press in the U.S. has always had a keen interest in this Aussie, and Michael enjoyed being featured in papers such as; the Chicago Tribune, CMJ (college music journal), Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Barfly, Nashville’s Rock n Read, The Northwest Indiana Times, The Midwest Beat, Sun City Journal, The Pioneer Press, The Rock River Times and many others.
Radio airplay while residing in America includes a live musical show on WPNA 1490 AM, Chicago land's International Choice Radio hosted by John Gorny, with 5 encore appearances 1996 - 2009. Other live radio performances and interviews include the stations of: WGN Chicago, WCBR The Bear Arlington Heights, IL., WIIL Kenosha, Wi., WYHY, Rockford, IL. In addition to APRA , and as the U.S. counterpart, Charles also is a voting professional member in NARAS, the Grammy Award Association where he enjoyed the title of premier entertainer for two years at the Chicago Chapter of NARAS Grammy Association. Michael has been elected for a Grammy in the 42nd Grammy Award year, in the 43rd Grammy Award year. In 2005 he was the recipient of an award from the Grammy Award Association and NARAS commemorating his ten year anniversary. And then once more, Charles was elected for a Grammy in the 50th Grammy Award Year and again in the 2010 52nd and 2011 in the 53rd Grammy Award year.
