Rule of Nines

This event is expired ( Feb 23, 2013 )

It has been over 15 years for the band Rule of Nines, and momentum seems to grow more and more as the years go by. Since their inception in 1994, Rule of Nines have performed to tens of thousands of people at various concerts, festivals, TV specials, corporate functions, and media events across North America. Along the way they have garnered numerous accolades in the music industry including nominations at the 2002 Prairie Music Alliance Awards in Winnipeg (Angel), and the 2003 Canadian Vibe Awards in Calgary. The band was also finalists and featured at the 2005 CKER Showcase Awards in Edmonton. In addition, Rule of Nines was awarded a national prize - the Canadian Futures Fest Peoples Choice Award for 2005.

The response to their 2001 debut CD Angel was simply overwhelming and quickly became an independent bestseller. With a style described as a “brand of rock that is reminiscent of the Eagles”, Rule of Nines has received tremendous media, radio, and television support. Performances have included the Alberta Industry Association Awards in 2001, CTV’s ‘Good Morning Canada’ in 2002, a performance at the Canadian Vibe Music Awards in 2003, ‘The Works International Music Festival’ from 2003 to 2006, and a headlining concert at the closing ceremonies at the worlds largest sporting event – the 2005 World Master Games in front of over 20,000 people. The band has even caught the ear of one of late night talk shows finest - Mr. David Letterman.

Rule of Nines’ music has been utilized in many areas of the music industry. Their songs have been featured in everything from drama productions and commercials, to videos and full-length feature films, including the release ‘15 on the Wood’ written and directed by John Hollinger. Sports stars and movie celebrities have also endorsed and supported the band including Tony Twist (St. Louis Blues) - International Iron horse Tour performances 2004, 2005, and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Desperate Housewives, Serenity) to name a few.

Along with the bands many musical accomplishments, Rule of Nines have been huge supporters of children’s organizations such as ‘World Vision’ and ‘Compassion Canada’ for many years. This can be observed in the fact that the band members actually financially support children through these organizations in addition to providing their support through musical concerts and performances. Further to this, the song “Angel”, based on a true story, has been chosen by the Canadian organization ‘Child Find’ as their theme song – an honour the band is very proud of. A complete video production was created centering on the song which is shown to over 300 Canadian schools a year in order to instil the virtues of child safety to children across the country.

Their sophomore CD Another Space and Time released in January of 2004 garnered rave reviews as well and surpassed the accomplishments of their debut album. With radio airplay across Canada and three full length music videos for the singles “I Won’t Let You Down”, “Lost In Silence/The Call”, and the title track “Another Space and Time”, the album quickly became a fan favourite – described as “smooth rock with an undeniably addictive eclectic feel”.

In October 2005, to the excitement of the band, the album was nominated for a 2005 Western Canadian Music Alliance Award which saw the band fly down to Vancouver for the awards ceremonies. Other nominees in various categories included Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, and Diana Krall. An amazing time was had by all!

2005 also saw the band release a mini CD which was based around a fan favourite tune entitled “Pass Me The Hammer” – a humorous country song which looks at love from a completely different perspective. The Hammer Project, as the CD is aptly named, is a must hear for those people who enjoy a little wit and humour.

In 2007 Rule of Nines released their third full length album – Chasing Shadows. According to industry insiders it is the best ‘Niner’ CD to date. The album release was followed by an extensive tour in support of the album. Once again, as its predecessors, Chasing Shadows became an independent best seller and was nominated for another Canadian national music award – namely a Canadian Covenant Award (the biggest achievement for the band so far). “Right Now”, a song off the CD which paints a clear picture of our times was nominated for ‘Rock Song of the Year’. The single off the album entitled “The Call” was a radio as well as fan favourite and was played across North America. Further to this, the military troops in Afghanistan were also privy to the song via CBC radio as it was dedicated to those troops in particular. The response to the song has been overwhelming as can be attested by the ‘Pat Tillman Organization’ in the USA (Arizona Cardinals - NFL).

Following extensive touring and live performance engagements with the release of Chasing Shadows, 2012 may be the most exciting chapter of the band's career thus far. With the release of the 'Nines' fifth studio project entitled 'Just A Moment Ago', Rule of Nines fans are in for a real treat. The 'best of' compilation includes variations of some of the band's most loved songs, as well as brand new material. Both fans of the band as well as newcomers to the group will no doubt enjoy what the new CD has to offer. "We are thrilled with the way the new project has turned out and cannot believe how fortunate we are to be able to have the material needed to create such a compilation" states Bernd Gretzinger, one of the founding members of the group. "I believe everyone, old and young, will enjoy the new album - there is something there for everyone."
