Sewing Machine Factory Interdisciplinary Outreach is proud to present its first feature event: On Love - A Dialogue with Brandon Wint and Simone A. Medina Polo
- BRANDON WINT is a poet, spoken word artist and teacher who is devoted to the articulation of the beauty within the human condition. His intricately-rendered performance pieces present a passionate, sincere and whimsical version of humanity. His writing, performance, and pedagogical approach all affirm, in their different ways, that there is beauty to be found in the struggle, and solace to be found in sincerity-of-spirit. He is an artist who uses poetry to harness empathy within himself, and have each of his words, deeds, creations and performances reflect that empathy unambiguously. He is a two-time national champion slam poet, a nationally published writer, as well as arts-educator and curator of artistic events.
- SIMONE A. MEDINA POLO is a non-binary immigrant who is a devoted interdisciplinary scholar. Graduated from Concordia University of Edmonton with a B.A. on Philosophy and English, Simone has gone on to do their own independent research on psychoanalysis and philosophy, which landed them as a presenter for Issues in Contemporary Phenomenology (Warsaw) and the 6th Annual Derrida Today Conference (Montreal). Besides the classroom, Simone is dedicated to various collectives, collaborations, and spaces - most notably locally, the Chess House, the Sewing Machine Factory, and In Arms Theatre Collective.
The dialogue is given a time of 45 minutes up to an hour, with 15 minutes for a Q&A section opening up the space to the audience to join the conversation. There will be an opportunity for a 5 minute break in between the dialogue and the Q&A.
The dialogue is taking place at the Sewing Machine Factory (ALLEY ENTRY, 9562 82 Ave NW). Do be aware that mobility access to the space is restricted due to stairs.
Doors open at 3pm; Dialogue at 3:30pm
