Sonic Boom Festival 2013

Blink-182

With more than 20 million albums sold worldwide, blink-182 is widely considered one of the best punk rock bands of all time. Formed in the San Diego suburbs in 1993, the band – Travis Barker, Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus – found international fame, multi-platinum albums and massive radio airplay success. A relentless and exciting live unit, blink-182 are touring furiously around the world, as fans anticipate more new music from this unpredictable trio.

City and Colour

Playing guitar since age eight and crafting songs since his teenage years, Dallas Green (otherwise known as City and Colour) has always known he wanted to write music and sing: mostly for himself, to find peace and clarity amongst the chaos. During his long, successful run with Canadian hardcore band Alexisonfire, Dallas released his first solo album as City and Colour in 2005. He followed up Sometimes with 2008’s Bring Me Your Love, 2011’s Little Hell, 2013’s Hurry and the Harm, and has experienced huge success both on the charts and the road.

Weezer

None of the members of Weezer, especially leader Rivers Cuomo, are conventional rockers: they were kids who holed up in their garage, playing along with their favorite records when they weren’t studying or watching TV. Conventional rock stars or not, the formula works. In their 21 years as a band, Weezer has released nine full‐length albums, six EPs, and a DVD, selling over nine million records in the United States.

Passion Pit

The Boston, Massachusetts-based Passion Pit began as a one-man project of singer and songwriter Michael Angelakos to produce a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend. The gift, an EP entitled Chunk of Change, soon wound up in the hands of friends and acquaintances, who were enthralled with the work. Passion Pit was soon a full fledged band, signed to Columbia Records, and released the LP Manners, followed by Gossamer in 2012. The record debuted at #4 on the Billboard album chart, and produced the hit singles “Take a Walk,” and “Carried Away“.

AWOLNATION

Hit singles are great, but for every real artist the dream when they go into the studio is to make music that reaches people, songs that strike a deep chord and resonates with audiences well after the track ends. For Aaron Bruno, the architect of white-hot new rockers AWOLNATION, hearing that his brilliant album Megalithic Symphony, and hit single “Sail”, have achieved that lofty ambition with anyone is the greatest reward of the success the band is enjoying now.

Dan Mangan

Once a mere fresh faced folk singer from Vancouver, Canada, Dan Mangan now stands at the world’s doorstep. The 2010 Polaris Music Prize short list nomination for his sophomore album Nice, Nice Very Nice capped a stellar year in which Dan won iTunes Album of the Year in the singer songwriter category, along with a long list of other prestigious honours. He followed that record up with the beautiful Oh Fortune, an album that, along with once again making the list of Polaris Prize nominees, helped Dan win three Western Canadian Music Awards and two Juno Awards, including one for New Artist of the Year.

Weakerthans

Founded in 1997, the Weakerthans has deep roots in the thriving North American indie scene. Revered for both their powerfully melodic folk punk sound and the vivid and inspired imagery of the lyrics, they’ve built a solid reputation as both literary minded songwriters and charismatic live performers.

The Sheepdogs

Saskatoon’s The Sheepdogs built their name on hard work and determination. Having funded their first three albums and early years of touring on their own, this rock and roll band’s momentum began to build exponentially when 1.5 million public votes landed the Sheepdogs’ unshaven mugs on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. After the success of their 2010 album “Learn & Burn” the band jumped into the studio to record their first major label album with Pat Carney of The Black Keys at the helm.

Mother Mother

Mother Mother’s rapid ascent from an acoustic folk trio touring the open mics of their hometown to an internationally revered alternative pop/rock five-piece touring the clubs, theaters and event centers of North America and Europe not only demonstrates just how far they’ve come but has also blazed the trail for what’s to follow. Massive critical acclaim and success with their most recent albums EUREKA and The Sticks has enabled the band to play sold out shows at 1000-2000 capacity venues in nearly every major market in Canada.
