Comprised of Ryan Guldemond, Molly Guldemond, Jasmin Parkin, Ali Siadat and Mike Young, Mother Mother has had a whirlwind decade; garnering seven top 10 singles on the alt rock Canadian charts and 100 million streams and counting on digital platforms. Their most recent release, Dance and Cry saw its first single “Get Up” at #1 on the Canadian alternative charts for seven consecutive weeks. The band’s North American tour supporting Dance and Cry earlier this year saw sellouts in Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Ottawa, and more.
Mother Mother’s previous album, 2017’s No Culture, produced “The Drugs” a #1 single on the Alt Rock charts in Canada for three consecutive weeks. The alt-rockers first earned critical acclaim with their debut albums Touch Up (2007) and O My Heart (2008). The releases that followed, Eureka (2011) and The Sticks (2012) delivered the top 5 radio hits “The Stand”, “Bit By Bit” and “Let’s Fall In Love”, making the band the second most aired alternative act in Canada in 2012 and 2013. In 2014 they racked up more hits with “Get Out The Way”, “Monkey Tree” and “Modern Love” from their much-lauded record Very Good Bad Thing. The band has also found success on the road; recent tours include sold-out headline dates across North America, selling out the historic Massey Hall in Toronto, and a record-breaking five consecutive sold-out shows at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver (nearly 6000 tickets). The band are embarking on a hotly anticipated European tour this spring with dates in Germany, London, France, and at The Great Escape in Brighton.
My father had this old Hewlett Packard computer with this bootleg copy of fruity loops, I'd spend hours making beats. I couldn't stop creating. I didn't start singing until after my mother's death, it was the only way I could unpack my emotions. I became colder than the winter that she left. I fell in a downward spiral and would eventually have to face the depression that swelled inside. I tried everything I could to numb myself to the pain but it only made it worse.
I began filtering my struggle into music, I felt repaired analyzing the things that tore me up. I began constructing a world that I could find solace in. The first song I had ever finished was BAD CHILD. I had written and produced it in 3 days and thrown it online. I moved to Toronto not knowing anyone, just on a gut instinct. I lived out of an old rehearsal space with a hotplate and an air mattress, and when the air mattress burst I slept on the floor. I made music every day and lived on oatmeal and cigarettes.More Event Details
