Lamont is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) east of Edmonton at the junction of Highway 15 and Highway 831.
The town of Lamont was described by settlers as “the nicest open country a person could wish for.” Today it is a progressive community that provides the quiet and tranquillity of the country with most amenities of a larger centre.
HISTORY
The earliest settlers to the area arrived from Ontario in 1892. The Bloomfield School sitting on the present site of Lamont Elementary opened for class in 1902. By 1905, CN Rail was surveying the town site and right of way. The settlement was named for a member of the Supreme Court of Canada., the Honourable Mr. Justice Lamont. The earliest church services were held in log cabins and school houses with the first Lamont Church opening in 1906.
ATTRACTIONS
Lamont is a bustling little town with a full range of services including accommodations, dining, and shopping to make your stay a pleasant one. Lamont has events throughout the year that attract many. At the end of July, the Lamont Community Fair provides fun for all ages with their parade, midway, pancake breakfast, fireworks, rodeo and more. FCSS throws Picnic in the Park, every June, where everyone is invited out to Hillside Park to have fun on bouncy houses and enjoy some free food while visiting with the community. The Lamont Light Up is a huge yearly event that provides a family fun festival celebrating the winter season with the traditions of Christmas. The Lamont & District Chamber of Commerce provides Christmas in the County in December and the Lamont Fish & Game provides their Annual Game Dinner in January, both are ticketed events that include incredible entertainment and a beautiful buffet with door prizes and more. OUTDOORS
Lamont is the gateway to Elk Island National Park which provides both citizens and visitors alike with numerous activities which include golfing and the incredible sight of buffalo. Take a stroll in Hillside Park, fly a kite on top of the hill, have a picnic, make a wish on the bridge, or enjoy the Spray Park and playground. Visit the Mohyla, which marks the centenary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada, or go fishing in the Lamont Trout Pond both located a few minutes north of the town.
